Well, this probably the worst piece of news you can hear. In one of the most exciting Yankee baseball seasons in a long time has turned into a potential nightmare.

Yesterday according to Bryan Hoch Gerrit Cole is going to have an MRI on his elbow after feeling difficult to recover in between his starts. According to Boone, Cole said it is what he feels during the season after 100 pitches.

First thing comes to mind is oh no that’s a UCL tear which means Tommy John and those words makes me wanna jump off a bridge because if that is the case you’re looking at a potential mid-season 2025 return. Yes 2025. I am preparing for the worst.

Now on the other side it’s been reported that the MRI is just for precautionary reasons and for Cole to get ahead of himself. I do not think your just gonna get an MRI for precautionary reasons but hey Cole knows what’s up.

Who can replace Cole if he is indeed out?

The answer is simple. NO ONE. Gerrit Cole is one of the greatest pitchers in this generation. There is no one on planet earth that comes close to him. Losing Cole is not a blow to the Yankees. That’s a nuclear explosion to our pitching staff. Who is going to be our ace now? Rodon? Oh good lord no. He gotta be the San Fransico version now. Stroman? Possibly but that’s a huge downgrade no disrespect to Marcus but Cole is irreplaceable.

What can the Yankees do now?

If Gerrit Cole is out for a month or two, I think we can survive for a bit. Have Beeter and Warren to fill in they are both solid. But what if Gerrit Cole is out for the season? Well first I’ll be dead and second the Yankees need and big time pitcher RIGHT AWAY.

Blake Snell is an option. He won the NL CY Young last year but part of me doesn’t really want him as one it is gonna cost a ton, second his numbers other than his 2 CY Young seasons aren’t really that good and lastly, he can’t get past the 5th or 6th inning as he throws way too many pitches, and those kinds of pitchers tend to not last very long. But we might just say screw it and get him at all cost.

Dylan Cease is also an option. According to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY, he reported that the Yankees have reemerge talks with the Chicago White Sox for Dylan Cease that does not include Spencer Jones. Personally, I would do this move as I like what I see from Cease.

Either way it doesn’t matter as to who we get because Gerrit Cole is a pitcher you cannot replace, and I cannot believe we have to face a reality where a torn UCL is in talks. Please Baseball writers do not do this to me again.
