The first month of the season is in the books and it’s time to give out the pinstripes to players who have earned them and call out those who have been playing well. If you don’t know the rules you can view the season preview or down here. It’s simple.

Every month each player can get up to a maximum of 5 pinstripes per month. You cannot lose pinstripes. The maximum number of pinstripes is 27 (27 rings make sense). The more pinstripes you have towards the end of the season. The better overall player you are. Here are my rankings of # of pinstripes in means for each category:

(Don’t take this into account now as the season just started)

  • 0-4; You are trash and shouldn’t be in the league anymore
  • 5-9; You had your moments, but you were MID
  • 10-14; You were a good player borderline All-Star
  • 15-19; You are an All-Star and considered a top player on the team
  • 20-25; You are a Superstar
  • 26-27; MVP and you are a Certified Yankee

Exceptions-

Injuries (depending on the length of the injury I’ll give some slack)

Trades (Whether you were traded or traded away I will inflate to whatever # pinstripes you had)

Rookies (Rookies will get a little of a pass but not much)

Players who received 5 Pinstripes

Juan Soto (5)

I mean what else I can say he’s everything you want from a player, and he is fantastic this season early favorite to win MVP. Pay that man whatever he wants.

Players who received 4 Pinstripes

None

Players who received 3 Pinstripes

Antony Volpe (3)

He’s had that amazing start and his swing a so leveled it’s gonna be deadly. But he has cooled off a lot towards the end of the month. Hopefully, he picks it up in May

Carlos Rodon (3)

So far so good for Rodon, his start against Milwaukee was excellent, and his ERA is under 3. I like what I’m seeing from him so far.

Alex Verdugo (3)

He definitely got that dawg in him. Credit to him so far he’s actually been pretty good so far with us. Aside from a few plays where he won’t hustle overall, you can’t be too upset about that as he’s hitting very well so far.

Oswaldo Cabrera (3)

Nobody expected this kind of start from Waldo but those first two weeks of the season, he was insane. He’s cooled off recently but that’s expected. I am very proud of Waldo so far and hope he continues to pick it up.

Clay Holmes (3)

Cardiac Clay gets bailed out somehow but gets the job done. Even though he allows runners on base he hasn’t allowed a single run yet (minus the stupid extra inning runner rule) 10 saves so far and a 0.00 ERA.

Players who received 2 Pinstripes

Giancarlo Stanton (2)

Credit to Stanton, after a slow start he’s picking things up. That grand slam against Toronto was so satisfying. While it’s not 2017 Giancarlo, at this point of his career, his numbers are very solid to start the month. Hopefully, he does not get injured and keeps it up. But my word is that dude is mad slow.

Clark Schmidt (2)

Not bad so far from Clark, my problem is he just can’t pitch 3rd time through the order but at least he has been very decent so far.

Marcus Stroman (2)

He has been a very nice solid pickup for the Yankees. His swag has been great he just missed a 3rd pinstripe because his start against the Brewers was trash.

Jose Trevino (2)

Started slow but has picked things up.

Nestor Cortes (2)

He’s been inconsistent but has his moments.

Players who received 1 Pinstripes

Aaron Judge (1)

Don’t get it twisted still the best player in baseball but unfortunately, I have to be transparent, he hasn’t been good this month. We are all disappointed with him and I bet he is too. He’s shown glimpses of it but he’s Aaron Judge, he’ll be fine. We’ll find out in June if he can pick things up.

Anthony Rizzo (1)

Sometimes I believe Rizzo has CTE because his defense has been disgusting in April. His bat is starting to pick things so hopefully he fixes that soon.

Luis Gil (1)

Kid has electric stuff but he’s command is awful. However, his start against Baltimore is the best start I’ve seen from him. Just needs to work on it and he will be deadly.

Austin Wells (1)

This is his rookie season so I’m not gonna be on his head too much. He’s been hitting much better towards the end of the season.

Nick Burdi (1)

I like Nick Burdi when he wasn’t injured. So, I’m giving him a pinstripe.

Ian Hamilton (1)

Another reliever that has been reliable.

Players who received 0 Pinstripes

Gleyber Torres (0)

WTF are we doing pal? Yes, he finally hit an HR but that doesn’t take the fact that he has been awful this year. The defense has been horrendous, and his offense has been a painful watch. Pick it up, brother.

Everyone else in the bullpen and bench (0)

The rest aren’t even good or don’t have enough playing time to earn one. Trent Grisham has only 1 hit. Caleb and Victor have been mid. Tonkin might be the top 5 worst pitcher I’ve ever seen.

Overall analysis

As of May 2nd, The Yankees are 20-13 and somehow that’s a miracle because I’m not sure besides the first 2 weeks of the season the Yankees have a winning record. This offense is absolutely pathetic and abysmal. Besides Juan Soto, this team is a Walmart version of 2023. Overall, 20-13 isn’t the end of the world but we really gonna need the offense especially our captain. He needs to pick it up in May. Let’s Go Yankees
